ORCAS ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL OPEN CALL TO SUBMIT SHORT FILM PROJECTS
The Orcas Island Film Festival invites filmmakers to explore the San Juan Islands and use it as a canvas to create short films that inspire, inform and entertain.
OIFF is awarding three, $5,000 grants to independent filmmakers who will have the chance to bring their film project to life, using the magic of the San Juan Islands as a backdrop during the summer of 2017. These three grant winning films will be featured at the 2017 Orcas Island Film Festival. The winner will be announced at a special awards ceremony and will have the honor of being featured in the prestigious Seattle International Film Festival in 2018.
Submissions are accepted from Friday, May 12th till midnight on Friday June 2nd, 2017
A panel of judges will select the three grant winners. Winners will be announced on June 14th, 2017.
The three grant winners will each receive $5,000. $3,500 will be awarded immediately following winners announcement. The final payment of $1,500 will be paid upon the delivery of your finished film on Sept 8th, 2017.
Filmmakers are to shoot and edit their film from June 15th – September 8th, 2017.
Completed films must be delivered by midnight on September 8th, 2017.
The three grant winning films will be posted on Orcas Island Film Festival’s website beginning September 11th and will be shown before selected films during the festival from October 6-9th, 2017.
The three grant winning films will be online and available for voting starting September 11th, 2017. Online audiences can vote for their favorite film until 5PM Saturday October 7th, 2017.
Each film will be screened at the festival and each filmmaker is required to be available to present their film at an opening night event. The final winner will be selected by a combination of both online and audience votes during the festival.
This year’s winner will be announced at our award ceremony and will have the honor of being featured in the Seattle International Film Festival’s shorts program in 2018.
Short Films can be of any genre and must be a minimum of 5 minutes long with a maximum length of 15 minutes including credits and introductory graphic. 75% of the film’s scenes must be shot anywhere in San Juan County.
There is no minimum age to enter the competition, however, minors (age 17 and younger) must acquire permission from a parent or guardian to participate.
There are several items that you’ll need to submit (upload) with your application:
Typewritten Script. Scripts and storyboards must be original work.
Budget (or Estimate)
Sample Work: Provide a URL to a video of your prior work (Vimeo, YouTube, etc.)
Scripts can be submitted beginning Friday May 12th, 2017.
Script submissions deadline is by midnight Friday June 2nd, 2017.
