On July 15th and August 19th following Music in the Park, the Orcas Island Film Festival and Orcasong Farm invite you to bring your chair and a blanket to the Eastsound Village green and enjoy two inspiring documentary films under the stars.  Each film in their own way celebrates two powerful women who stood up for what they believe without compromise.

"RBG" /Sunday July 15th & "Bad Reputation"/Sunday August 19th

First up is “RBG,” a powerful and inspiring documentary of an unlikely rock star: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.  At 84, and still inspired by the lawyers who defended free speech during the Red Scare, Ginsburg refuses to relinquish her passionate duty, steadily fighting for equal rights for all citizens under the law.  With unprecedented access, the filmmakers explore how her early legal battles changed the world for women.

The second feature, “Bad Reputation: The Joan Jett Story,” gives you a wild ride as Jett and her close friends tell you how it really was in the burgeoning ’70s punk scene with amazing archival footage and interviews. Even though people tried to define Jett and keep her stuck to one hit, she never compromised. She influenced countless musicians—both her cohort of punk rockers and generations of younger bands—with her no-bs style. She will kick your butt, and you’ll love her all the more for it.

These films are free to the public and have been generously sponsored by Orcasong Farm, a 90 acre farm on Orcas Island whose mission is to advance through holistic education, conscious arts and event programming, environmental advocacy and interwoven farm-based enterprises.
